The core exhibits of the North Carolina Museum of History traced the state's prehistory through to the present day. Phase 2 was the second half, starting just after the Revolutionary War. As Head Designer, I was charged with leading visitors on a chronological journey from the Civil War, to the Industrial Revolution, through both World Wars, to the Civil Rights Movement and ending with the promise created by the Technology Triangle of the 21st century. The exhibit explored the state's social struggles including slavery, the tobacco and cotton mill industries, Jim Crow laws, the Depression, and the global wars in the begining of the 20th century which opened the state and its people to the broader world.
As Lead Designer for phase 2 of this project I lead a team through all aspects of design, exhibit layout, design detailing, design layout, documentation, artifact tracking, architectural coordination, artifact case detailing, case layouts, content coordination, and audio visual coordination.

Visitors can put their faces in the fully rendered cast figure and have their photo taken.

This exhibit explores the dichotomy of the freedom experienced by African Americans and the backlash of dispossessed whites after the devastation of the Civil War.
